January 30 to February 7, 2009
The only place to see the top Canadian films of 2008, with many filmmakers and actors in attendance!
Canada’s Top Ten was established in 2001 by the Toronto International Film Festival Group to honour excellence in contemporary Canadian cinema. Over the past eight years, Canada’s Top Ten has grown into a highly-anticipated programme, bringing Canada’s most promising and acclaimed filmmakers together with eager audiences for a unique Canadian film experience. These diverse, groundbreaking films keep audiences coming back year after year. Last year’s Top Ten selection featured Guy Maddin’s wild “docu-fantasia” My Winnipeg, Yung Chang’s moving documentary Up the Yangtze, Richie Mehta’s popular Amal, and Martin Gero’s controversial Young People Fucking.
Canada’s Top Ten also brings you the Top Ten Canadian short films of the year. Last year’s winners included the Academy Award®-nominated shorts Madame Tutli-Putli and I Met the Walrus. Selected by an independent panel of industry professionals, filmmakers and critics from across the country, the short films in Canada’s Top Ten stand alongside the features as a testament to the immense filmmaking talent in this country.
